"I must admit I searched out numerous web sites looking for a school that offered Metaphysics that was structured, affordable, well-planned, and professional. The Metaphysics Institute met all of my criteria! I feel like I am back in college! Dr. Kelley wants only the best from his students, and expects nothing less! He gives advice and guidance in your lessons; at times making you re-think your answers. He approaches his subjects based on a realistic belief of his subjects and the philosophy behind Metaphysics. In other words, you are truly being educated to the science of Metaphysics! Upon completion of this program, you will have both a professional and realistic approach to the many fields of Metaphysics. I highly recommend this school to those who seek a career in this field, and to those who simply want to know!" —Dr. Camille E., North Carolina
Choosing the right curriculum and metaphysics school is an important decision for prospective students, and sometimes the choice may be difficult. Obviously, we feel that we offer an outstanding curriculum that will truly enable our graduates to be successful in their chosen area of specialization. However, we also recognize that our curriculum may not be the best fit for all people. With this in mind, we offer several tips on choosing the right metaphysics school, university, or college to best fit your needs and objectives.

1. Why do you want a degree in metaphysics?
Whether your objective is starting a ministry, a metaphysics or hypnosis practice, or just personal growth, the knowledge and skills you will acquire with the Institute of Metaphysical Humanistic Science's (IMHS) curriculum will give you a solid and proven foundation upon which to build your metaphysics career!
2. How will you use your degree?
Most schools of metaphysical studies offer some type of degree in metaphysics that can be used in various ways. There are many advantages to having doctoral letters after your name, most notably, perceived credibility. However, if you want to actually be credible, you also need to really know what you're talking about. Letters after your name without substance will still not get you very far, and your reputation will soon suffer. Therefore, you will want to choose a metaphysics school that will really teach you useful information that you can apply to your life and career as well as use to help others in meaningful ways. IMHS degrees are designed to give you a working knowledge of metaphysics and useful skills that add to and enhance your good reputation as a metaphysician. Others will notice the difference!
3. What kind of metaphysical knowledge/skills are you looking for?
Metaphysics can be a very wide field of study and different metaphysics universities or schools offer different mixes of metaphysical topics. Some are very esoteric (highly specialized); others are not. Some metaphysics schools offer a curriculum made up of highly subjective beliefs reminiscent of religious teachings that perhaps have a high "feel good factor," but may not, perhaps, offer much practical value in the real world. IMHS' philosophy is that metaphysical topics should actually help students to live happier and more successful lives and not simply impart knowledge for knowledge's sake or give students nothing more than fleeting moments of feeling good. It is important to note that none of these various approaches to metaphysics are right or wrong; they are just different, and different people are looking for different things.
If you are looking for a human-centered approach with solid metaphysical skills that you can use immediately in your life and career, then you will not find a finer curriculum than IMHS... and if you do find a better one, then enroll at that school! We encourage you to carefully read the curriculum and policies of any metaphysics school you are interested in to make sure it is a good fit for you. And you need not worry about being “scammed;” all of the bigger metaphysical schools are simply trying to help people grow each with a different approach.
4. Do you want specific training in your chosen area of specialization?
Some metaphysical schools essentially have one curriculum regardless of the specialization you choose, although some metaphysics schools do allow you to take electives that may or may not fall within your area of interest. With this type of system, it is up to you to write a doctoral dissertation on a topic specific to your chosen degree. The very real problem with this is that you may not receive an education aimed at your chosen specialization. In other words, a student who wants to specialize in parapsychology will get little or no education in parapsychology, but he or she must write a doctoral dissertation on parapsychology to get the degree. This requires you to go elsewhere to get specific knowledge outside of the metaphysics school's curriculum in order to get your degree.
With IMHS, even though you have a choice of doctoral designations, IMHS will give you specific training in your chosen area of specialization whether it is metaphysical science, spiritual counseling, life coaching, Reiki, hypnosis, paranormal science, or others. This saves you time and money from having to supplement your education with outside sources.
5. Do you want more interaction with the instructor or less interaction?
Our courses afford you both options. If you are very serious about your metaphysical education and desire the most from your training, then you will be pleased to know that one of the things that sets IMHS apart is the caring attention from the instructor. We really do care about your education! On the other hand, some students prefer to simply complete the courses with minimal instructor interaction. Either way, you win with IMHS!
6. How much time do you have to spend in studying?
Most online metaphysics degree programs allow you to study at your own pace, which is good. On the other hand, some metaphysics schools' curricula can be unnecessarily excessive and time consuming in the same way that academic degrees often focus on subjects that students seldom use in the real world. It all depends on what you are looking for.
The IMHS Degree Program is designed to strike a balance between too much information and too little information. Our courses are concentrated to eliminate fluff and to focus squarely on the core issues and topics at hand. We know you are busy so we have designed our courses to be easily taken at the rate of up to three per month which will allow you to finish your doctoral degree in four to 12 months (or longer, if you wish). Of course, you can go slow or fast (but not too fast) depending on your schedule.
7. Do you want online lessons and exams or printed lessons and mail-in exams?
Some metaphysics universities may only offer distance learning rather than online learning. Some may offer both. What's the difference? Distance learning is often used as another term for "correspondence course" and involves receiving your study materials through the mail. You may also have to submit your course exams through the mail as well. As a result, getting your exams graded can take weeks which slows down the process. This kind of system can be an issue for those who want to start using their degrees as soon as reasonably possible.
Online learning, on the other hand, means that your study material can be read online or downloaded and printed out. Likewise, your exams are also taken online giving you instant or near instant results. This can greatly speed up the process and is usually much more convenient. IMHS offers convenient 100% online learning that saves time, money, and hassle. Students are able to study online or download and print their study material. Our courses include online exams which provide automatic grading of all questions except essay questions (which are graded within 24 hours or less; usually within a few hours). Multimedia supplements to the study material are also available right on the course page. Our online learning system offers a convenient learning solution and saves students time and money!
8. Are you looking for an accredited metaphysics university or school?
Bear in mind that there are no federally accredited metaphysics schools in the same sense as colleges and universities. Therefore, metaphysics-related schools (including alternative health schools) must use third-party accrediting agencies for accreditation. Rather than accept a potentially lower educational standard, IMHS has chosen to accredit its courses through its sister organization, the International Metaphysical Practitioners Association (IMPA). (See the Accreditation page for complete details on accreditation.)
In reality, accreditation does not mean as much with metaphysics schools as it does with traditional colleges and universities. The truly important things to look for in a metaphysics school is its curriculum, commitment to quality education, and student support. The best advice is to choose a metaphysical school of which you can be proud and with whom you want to be associated. You want a diploma from a metaphysics school that displays professionalism and high educational standards; a diploma that you can feel good about because you actually earned it. IMHS is a top-quality and highly professional metaphysics school accredited by IMPA and committed to quality education and excellence in service. We want you to succeed and will do everything we can to help. You can be proud and confident when showing off your IMHS Degree to friends, family, and colleagues knowing that you earned it!
9. How much money are you able to invest in your metaphysical education?
Price is often the first and biggest consideration when we purchase just about anything--and a metaphysics degree is no different. Tuition for metaphysics degrees can vary greatly depending on the metaphysics school. Some degrees cost virtually nothing; others can cost up to $12,000 or more. Several are priced in the $2,000 to $5,000 range. Since secular accreditation is not available for metaphysics degrees, students are unable to get federal grants or student loans to cover the cost of tuition. As a result, nearly every metaphysics school offers payment plans of one kind or another. Some metaphysics schools charge interest; some don't. In addition, many metaphysics schools will give you a discount if you prepay your tuition.
In deciding on which metaphysical school to use in getting your metaphysics degree, first make sure their curriculum fits your needs, then check to see if they have a payment plan that fits your budget. Another consideration is value vs. price. Some schools may charge a lot, but not offer a good value. Other metaphysics schools may charge very little and still not offer a good value. Look for a metaphysics school that offers good value for your investment.
A third consideration is the return on investment (ROI) you receive. Any decision you make must return more in some way than you paid. This return may be in the satisfaction you receive from helping others such as in a ministry or in spiritual counseling, for example, or it may be in acquiring the necessary skills you need from the curriculum to start a metaphysical practice such as hypnosis, holistic healing, or life coaching. IMHS offers an excellent value at a competitive tuition rate. Several proprietary concepts you will learn are potentially worth thousands of dollars to you--not to mention the general value gained in healthier relationships. Plus, IMHS offers a prepay discount and interest-free pay-as-you-go plans that will fit almost any budget!
